Meet our Founder

American Labor Relations Group, Inc. (ALG) is a national human resource and labor relations consulting firm dedicated to supporting employers and management in a wide variety of areas.  The Firm’s Founder and current President, Jim Monica, is a seasoned labor relations attorney.  Jim started his legal career at an exclusively union-side labor law firm, where he represented locals of nearly every major US union in arbitrations, collective bargaining, and Federal court litigation.  After 5 years of learning the ins and outs of how unions think and operate, Jim moved to the world’s largest management-side labor & employment firm, Littler Mendelson. During the nearly 5 years Jim spent at Littler he represented employers in all aspects of Traditional Labor Law including collective bargaining, arbitrations, NLRB and D0L matters, litigation, and union avoidance.  After earning his stripes at two law firms, Jim took a position as the Director of Labor Relations with Penske Truck Leasing & Penske Logistics.  While at Penske, Jim revamped and oversaw the Company’s “Positive Associate Relations” program.  He also administered and negotiated collective bargaining agreements with many unions across the Country.     

In 2015, Jim founded ALG with a focus and goal of building a business and brand his family would be proud of.  Along with his associates, Jim devoted the last 7 years of his career to growing ALG into the nationally recognized firm that it is.  Jim spends a lot of his time traveling across the country, building and nurturing client relationships.  On the service side, Jim focuses his work in day to day counseling as well as formal proceedings. He has represented several Fortune 500 companies in high-stakes union elections, contract negotiations, and arbitrations.  Jim spends a great deal of time in the arena of positive employee relations and preventative work.  He developed a series of intense, interactive training sessions for management that revolves around engagement.  Jim provides education to employees, front-line managers, and executives. He possesses extensive knowledge in various industries including Healthcare, Retail, Cannabis, Construction, Food & Beverage, Communication, Transportation, Trucking, Logistics/Manufacturing/Warehouse, and Education. The direct reason behind his high success rate is Jim’s ability to intimately relate to all walks of life from CE0s to hourly workers.  Jim is fluent in Spanish and has worked with several non-English speaking units of employees.  He earned his Bachelor of Arts from Lehigh University and his Juris Doctor from Hofstra University School of Law.   

As hard as Jim works, he also is a firm believer in work-life balance.  When he is not flying around the Country, Jim enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters doing just about anything.  He is an avid golfer and enjoys salt water and fly fishing.   

Our team of human resource and labor relations professionals is unlike any other in the business. We have all worked together for several years and are a work family. We are a dedicated group of HR professionals, former managers/supervisors and labor relations professionals with truly diverse backgrounds. We do a lot of team-building and professional development activities.
